Carl Verstandig

In the past 40 years, Carl Verstandig has gone from his family's local Baltimore Convenient store to amassing an enormous real estate portfolio. After graduating college in 1976, Carl and his partners opened up Kash and Karry, Warehouse Food Markets and Food Town. The grocery chain grew from one small store to 35 locations throughout the DC-Baltimore market region. The grocery stores were sold in 1986.

With his vast knowledge of Grocery and the retail industry, Carl Ventured into buying former 7-11 buildings throughout Baltimore. He placed convenient stores into the buildings under the name Food Stop Mini Marts. This spread to small strip shopping centers and lead the way to regional centers across the country. This has since blossomed into a $1.2 Billion Dollar real estate portfolio.

Carl Started America's Realty LLC 28 years ago with the development of a 40,000 square foot Parkville, Md. Shopping center. Carl today runs America's Realty with his son and the same group of investors he started with 30 years ago. America's Realty is a blue collar shopping center acquisition firm. They purchased in a market that supports the middle class. Carl believes there is a strong demand for discounted retail. Carl's core tenants include Variety Wholesalers, trading as Roses Dept. Stores, and Maxway Stores, Dollar General, Food Lion, Home Depot, Giant Eagle, JC Penny, K-Mart, Advanced Auto Parts, Auto Zone, Pebbles Department Store, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, Save A Lot, Cato Clothing, and Ollie's. Some of these companies have locations in a number of Carl's properties and follow him as he buys new centers.
